Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 12:49-53

This statement of Jesus reminds us of the Prophecy of Micah 7:6. (For the son dishonors his father, the daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law, and a man’s enemies are those of his household). The Prophet warns of the imminent crisis and urges the listeners to trust in God.

In this incoming crisis, Jesus realizes that, his own life and death will occupy the central stage (the Baptism that he must still undergo). Jesus is astonished that the people have not recognized this yet. (people see the Roman occupation; oppressive rule of Herod: wealthy high priests: false agenda of Pharisees etc). In the midst of all these he himself is preaching the kingdom. What would be the result: a division

இயேசுவின் போதனைகளின் பின்புலம் மீக்கா 7:6. (ஏனெனில், மகன் தன் தந்தையை அவமதிக்கின்றான்@ மகள் தன் தாய்க்கு எதிராக எழும்புகின்றாள்> மருமகள்> தன் மாமியாரை எதிர்க்கின்றாள்@ ஒருவரின் பகைவர் அவரது வீட்டில் உள்ளவரே ஆவர். நானோ> ஆண்டவரை விழிப்புடன் நோக்கியிருப்பேன்@ என்னை மீட்கும் என் கடவுளுக்காகக் காத்திருப்பேன். என் கடவுள் எனக்குச் செவிசாய்த்தருள்வார்.) அங்கு நடக்கும் சமுதாய பின்ணணியில் இயேசுவின் வாழ்வும் பணியும் அவரை ஒரு மையப்பகுதிக்கு அழைக்கிறது (ஆயினும் நான் பெற வேண்டிய ஒரு திருமுழுக்கு உண்டு. அது நிறைவேறுமளவும் நான் மிகவும் மன நெருக்கடிக்குள்ளாகி இருக்கிறேன்.)

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 12:39-48

Jesus was talking about the servants and their duties. The servants should be vigilant always, must be prepared, must be dutiful, watchful and available to the other servants. Peter as usual questions Jesus asking whether this parable was meant for the disciples also.

Jesus’ reply indirectly answered him. This parable was meant for everyone including the disciples. Everyone is entrusted with duty according to his ability. Fidelity to the duty and fulfillment of the duty is what is expected. Expectation depends on the duty. Since it is a duty given the result is also is not only expected but demanded. Responsibility falls on the one who receives the duty.

இயேசு போதிக்கின்ற போதனைகளும் உவமைகளும் எல்லாருக்குமே. கடவுள் முன்னிலையில் எல்லாருமே பணியாளர்கள். பணியாளர்களுக்கு கடமைகள் கொடுக்கப்படுகின்றன. கடமைகளை நிறைவேற்றுவதில் பணியாளர்கள் பொறுப்புள்ளவர்களாக இருக்கவேண்டும். இதுவே எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது.
