06.10.2015 BETTER PART

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 10:38-42

These two sisters were historical persons. Other Gospels also speak about them. But the details they give are different. However these two sisters represent two types of people. Rather they are models of people who follow Jesus and become disciples of Jesus in different ways.

Martha is a type of person who run around trying to do so many things for Jesus and continuously worried about doing things for Jesus. The amount of work she is trying to do is so much that one person could not complete it and hence there is the need for help from others. Mary does not do any external work but remains seated at the feet and listen to him.

05.10.2015 NEIGHBOUR

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 10:25-37

Like this scholar, people know the rules. They also know about what they should do to inherit eternal life. They study the word of God. They interpret the word of God rightly. Even if God (son of God) were to conduct a test (oral test), the people (like this scholar) score very high marks.

But they do not know who the neighbour is. They know all about the way the neighbour should be treated. Theoretical neighbor is known by all. But the practice of loving the neighbour and doing the works of charity to the neighbour is not known and that is the reason they ask: “And who is my neighbor?”
