GOSPEL READING: LUKE 7: 31-35

The people of that generation were not serious about eternal things. They were not bothered about the things of the next world. They were like little children not taking things seriously. External activities were like playful activities. This was the reason Jesus considered them as playful children.

John Baptist was a reserved austere man, lived much in solitude, and ought to have been admired for being such a humble, sober, self-denying man, and hearkened to as a man of thought and contemplation; but this, which was his praise, was turned to his reproach. Jesus was open and friendly and he was eating with Pharisees and the sinners and this was not liked by the others. None must make themselves a standard to all others, nor judge hardly of those that do not do just as they do.

16.09.2014 JESUS AND WIDOW

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 7:11-17

There were many disciples (a crowd) followed Jesus as he was going. There was another crowd following the bier. Two crowds meet: one mourning another rejoicing at the presence of Jesus and having seen many miracles done by Jesus. Meeting of the crowds has not done anything at all. But meeting Jesus and the bier (carrying the dead boy) has done something for the on lookers.

Jesus addressed the widow. For her this son was the only hope of her last days of life. She hoped that he would be the one who would take care of her. He was the only relation. He raised the boy with the command. Jesus had command over death. The crowds glorified God.
