Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 5:31-47

Jesus was going about preaching and doing many things in God’s name. He also identified himself with the Father. He called God as his Father. The people asked for testimony. Jesus does not need testimony because he is God and he is from God. Not only that, but because he is God and from God only God can testify about him.

Human testimony is worthless. Even the testimony of John the Baptist, whom the people believed and accepted him as a man of God is limited (He was a burning and shining lamp, and for a while you were content to rejoice in his light. But I have testimony greater than John’s.). There is no testimony greater than God’s. God’s testimony is all inclusive (of John’s, Moses’ and all) and still greater.

இயேசுவின் போதனைகளும் செயல்பாடுகளும் மக்கள் மனதில் பல கேள்விகளை எழுப்பின. இவர்களுக்கு சாட்சிகள் தேவைப்பட்டன. மனிதர் தரும் சான்று அவருக்குத் தேவை இல்லை. கடவுளே அவருக்குச் சாட்சியாக இருக்கிறார். கடவுளின் சாட்சி எல்லாவற்றையும் உள்ளடக்கக் கூடியது மேலும் எல்லாவற்றையும் விட சிறந்தது மேலானது.

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 5:17-30

Jesus revealed himself to be the Son of the Father. This revelation was not just that he was the Son. It was more than that. He said that he was identical with the Father. He was doing things exactly as his Father was doing (a son cannot do anything on his own, but only what he sees his father doing; for what he does, his son will do also).

Father is at work always and at all times. So does the Son. There is no break for the Son (Sabbath) from work. Father – Son relationship is based on love. Like the Father, the Son also has authority over life (the Son give life to whomever he wishes). Son has also the power and authority to judge people. Hence the Son also should be honoured like the Father.

தந்தை மகனை வெளிப்படுத்துகின்றார். மகனும் தந்தையை வெளிப்படுத்துகின்றார். தந்தை-மகன் உறவு அன்பை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டது. அவர்களிடையே இருப்பது உறவு மட்டுமல்ல மாறாக அவர்கள் எல்லாவற்றிலும் ஒரே மாதிரியாக இருக்கிறார்கள்.
