Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 1:45-51

You will see the sky opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.

Nathanael was a man of integrity. He expressed what he felt and he was not trying to play to the situation. Even when Philip was saying something about Moses and the prophets yet he was not bothered about all these. What he felt about Nazareth he expressed openly. Jesus also expressed that an Israelite should be so.

Angels descending and ascending expressed the presence of God in a particular place. The mind of the Israelites was that Angels moved around the world and gathered the requests and petitions of the people and placed them in front of God and carried back the replies from God. So the place of ascending and descending was the place where god lived. Jesus was trying to explain that he was the place where god was present.

மேலும் ‘வானம் திறந்திருப்பதையும் கடவுளின் தூதர்கள் மானிட மகன்மீது ஏறுவதையும் இறங்குவதையும் காண்பீர்கள் என மிக உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்” என்று அவரிடம் கூறினார்.

கடவுளின் தூதர்கள் ஏறுவதும் இறங்குவதும் இறை பிரசன்னம் இருக்கும் இடத்தில்தான். தூதர்கள் மக்களின் வேண்டுதல்களை இறைவனிடம் எடுத்துச் செல்வார்கள் பிறகு இறைவனின் பதில்களை மக்களிடம் எடுத்துச் செல்வார்கள். தூதர்கள் மானிட மகன்மீது ஏறுவதையும் இறங்குவதையும் காண்பீர்கள் என இயேசு சொல்லுவது இறை பிரசன்னத்தை குறிப்பிடவே.

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 22:34-40

Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?

The desire of man is to know the greatest, the highest etc. Man thinks that the answer also would be very difficult and almost impossible. Because deep within man there is the feeling that whatever is great and noble and are hidden from the knowledge of man and he has to struggle to know them.

But Jesus’ answer proves that those things are the most simplest and easiest even to practice. Man does not need to struggle to answer these things. Man makes great effort in trying to do the difficult things but he, in no way makes any effort to do the simplest things.
