Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 22:1-14

‘Tell those invited: “Behold, I have prepared my banquet, my calves and fattened cattle are killed, and everything is ready; come to the feast.”‘

It is interesting that Jesus speaks of the kingdom in terms of celebrations, wedding, meal etc. If the parable so then how would the reality be?. Kingdom is a place of celebration where God is the host and the rest are invited quests. The invited quests cannot in anyway sabotage the celebrations. God’s celebration will continue and it will carry on.

The invited guests are distracted with many things. They go to the extent of even neglecting the celebrations. They are so much concerned with other activities instead they have only one thing to do and that is joining in the celebration. Celebration will continue with uninvited guests. Invitation shows only the preference and not the exclusive right.

~நான் விருந்து ஏற்பாடு செய்திருக்கிறேன். காளைகளையும் கொழுத்த கன்றுகளையும் அடித்துச் சமையல் எல்லாம் தயாராயுள்ளது. திருமணத்திற்கு வாருங்கள்| என அழைப்புப் பெற்றவர்களுக்குக் கூறுங்கள் என்று சொல்லி அனுப்பினார்.

இறையாட்சி என்பது ஒரு கொண்டாட்டம், ஒரு விருந்து, ஒரு திருமணம். அழைக்கப்பட்டவர்களின் புறக்கணிப்பால் கொண்டாட்டம் நின்றுபடுவதில்லை. அழைக்கப்படாத விருந்தினர்கள்கூட கொண்டாட்டத்தில் கலந்துகொள்வர். கொண்டாட்டம் எல்லாருக்கும் பொதுவானது. அழைப்பு ஒரு தேர்ந்தெடுப்பே.

Are you envious because I am generous?

Quality of God is very well expressed in this parable. Human beings are limited and they think in human terms. They speak in terms of justice, cause and effect, rights and duties, equality etc. Because, these human qualities are not present in all men equally. It varies from person to person and this causes jealousy and envy.

God instead works on his qualities of love, generosity, truth, giving gifts, making covenants with people and giving promises to the people and fulfilling them. God’s love and generosity go beyond the justice and equality that men see. In fact they include the good qualities of men and go beyond it (My friend, I am not cheating you. Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage? ).

நான் நல்லவனாய் இருப்பதால் உமக்குப் பொறாமையா?|

மனிதன் நீதி, உரிமை, கடமை போன்றவைகளை வைத்து வாழ்க்கையை நடத்துகிறான். ஆனால் கடவுள் அன்பு, தாராளம், உண்மை, உடன்படிக்கை, வாக்குறுதி போள்றவைகளை வைத்து உலகை நடத்துகிறார். கடவுளின் குணங்கள் மனித குணங்களை உள்ளடக்கும் மேலும் அதைத்தாண்டியும் செல்லும்.
