GOSPEL READING: JOHN 12:1-11

“Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days’ wages and given to the poor?”

Mary loved Jesus so much because she has received from him the forgiveness and the love that she could get only from God. In front of God nothing was worthwhile for her. Everything else in the world was nothing for her in front of the love of Jesus and she had to tell it openly; and she did it. This was her attitude.

Judas was looking at the cost of things and the monetary value of things only. Poor and even serving the poor for Judas was in monetary terms only. Jesus was looking at resurrection perspective and hence there was no poor for him (for after resurrection there is no distinction as poor and rich or any other). Even on the earth Jesus was looking at persons, individuals and not at their status. He always looked at them with resurrection perspective.

மரியா இயேசுவிடம் இறை அன்பை, இறை மன்னிப்பை உணர்ந்தாள். உலகிலுள்ள எல்லாமே விலைஉயர்ந்த பொருள்கள்கூட அவளுக்கு மதிப்பற்றவைகள்தான். ஏழைகளையும் அவர்களுக்குச் செய்கின்ற பணியையும்கூட பணக்கண்ணோட்டத்தில்தான் கண்டான். இயேசு உயிர்ப்பு கண்ணோட்டத்தில் பார்க்கிறார் (வேறுபாடுகள் கிடையாது).

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 19:28-40

“Why are you untying this colt?” They answered, “The Master has need of it.” So they brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks over the colt, and helped Jesus to mount. As he rode along, the people were spreading their cloaks on the road;

Jesus entry into Jerusalem was the final threat to the political leaders (Pilate) and the religious leaders (Chief Priests, Pharisees etc). The Jews were always afraid of the Galileans because there were many rebels among the Galileans. Many leaders appeared on their own and fought battles against the Romans.

Jesus entry into Jerusalem frightened them. He did not come alone or only with his disciples. There was a crowd behind him and they were all shouting redemption and they were shouting and welcoming a leader into their midst. The leaders could not stomach such a following into Jerusalem. Every rebel had a crowd behind him and he was fighting an enemy but Jesus had the crowd around him but he did not fight against any enemy (political or civil). Jesus was with the people and for the people.

‘கழுதையை ஏன் அவிழ்க்கிறீர்கள்?” என்று அவர்களிடம் கேட்டார்கள். அதற்கு அவர்கள், ‘இது ஆண்டவருக்குத் தேவை” என்றார்கள்: பின்பு அதை இயேசுவிடம் ஓட்டி வந்தார்கள்; அக்கழுதையின் மேல் தங்கள் மேலுடைகளைப் போட்டு, இயேசுவை அதன்மேல் ஏற்றி வைத்தார்கள்.

இயேசு எருசலேமில் நுழைவது அரசியல் தலைவர்களுக்கும் மற்ற தலைவர்களுக்கும் பயத்தை உருவாக்கியது. இயேசுவின் பின்நின்ற கூட்டத்தைக் கண்டு அவர்கள் மிகவும் அஞ்சினார்கள். அரசியல் நோக்கோடு உள்வருபவர்கள் மக்கள் கூட்டத்தைக்கூட்டி எதிர்த்து செல்வார்கள். இயேசு யாரையும் எதிர்த்துச் செல்லவில்லை. மக்களோடு மக்களுக்காகச் சென்றார்.
