Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 18:12-14

Amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray.

Jesus is taking an example from the shepherds. Probably he was addressing the shepherds. However the Israelites were all shepherds; and they were semi-nomads by origin. Sheep was their world. Every minute they thought about it. Their life depended on sheep. They changed their life style and they moved about according to the need of the sheep.

Sheep was precious to them and if they lost one they would go to any extend to get it back. Jesus understood the mind of the shepherds. He knew their life style; their inner most longings; their behavior; etc. He identified himself as one of them (I am the good Shepherd). He was born in a manger: first visitors were shepherd; and he was with the sheep. Heavenly Father is like the shepherd when it comes to seeking the sheep that is lost.

இடையர்களைப்பற்றி இயேசு நன்கு அறிந்திருந்தார். அவர்களைப் பற்றி@ அவர்களின் மனநிலை@ அவர்களின் வாழ்க்கை முறை எல்லாம் அறிந்திருந்தார். அவர்கள் ஆடுகளுக்காக வாழ்ந்தார்கள். ஆடுகளுக்கு எது நடந்தாலும் அவர்கள் பாதிக்கப்பட்டார்கள்; தவறிய ஒரு ஆடுகூட அவர்களுக்கு முக்கியம். தவறிய ஒரு ஆடு மற்ற எல்லா ஆடுகளையுளும்விட மகிழ்ச்சிதரக் கூடியது@ கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டால்.

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 5:17-26

The power of the Lord was with him for healing.

Jesus was teaching. People gathered in a big way. There were also Pharisees and the teachers of the law. They had come from all over the places. This shows that Jesus teaching was known all over. He was not teaching like anyone else (there were many teachers at that time); but his teaching was different so that even the opposition groups wanted to listen to him.

Jesus was teaching; he was healing and he was forgiving sins. He teaching was from above or about the heavens and the kingdom of heaven; and the power of the Lord was with him for healing (Lk 5:17); and he also had the power to forgive sins (that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins). All these powers: for teaching, for healing and for forgiving sins had been given to him from God. Only God or Godly person (one who has the power of God) can do all these.

இயேசு கற்பித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார். எல்லா ஊர்களிலிருந்தும் வந்திருந்த பரிசேயரும் திருச்சட்ட ஆசிரியர்களும் அமர்ந்து கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். அவருடைய போதனை அவ்வளவு சிறந்ததாக இருந்தது. பிணி தீர்ப்பதற்கான ஆண்டவரின் வல்லமையை அவர் கொண்டிருந்தார். பாவங்களைப்போக்கும் அதிகாரம் அவரிடம் இருந்தது. போதனையைக்கேட்டவர்கள், பிணிதீர்ப்பதைப் பார்த்தவர்கள் அவரை இறைமகன் (பாவங்களை மன்னிக்க அதிகாரம் உண்டு) என்பதை ஏற்க மறுக்கிறார்கள்.
