Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 17:14-20

He said to them, “Because of your little faith. Amen, I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Jesus sent out the disciples to cast out demons, heal the sick and to preach the kingdom. Disciples were sharing the ministry of Jesus. People were also going to them and many were healed by their prayers. This was one of the reasons that the man in this story brought his son to the disciples. The disciples had faith in Jesus and in God. Here Jesus spoke of the quality of faith.

Man believes and most of his actions are the outcome of his belief. Casual belief makes one’s life meaningful and successful (posted letter reaches the destination is a casual belief…). Here Jesus tells his disciples that the belief which they have in God, though small in size, should include the acceptance that nothing is impossible to God. God is the master of creation and everything is in his control.

இயேசு அவர்களைப் பார்த்து> ‘உங்கள் நம்பிக்கைக் குறைவுதான் காரணம். உங்களுக்குக் கடுகளவு நம்பிக்கை இருந்தால் நீங்கள் இம்மலையைப் பார்த்து ~இங்கிருந்து பெயர்ந்து அங்குப் போ| எனக் கூறினால் அது பெயர்ந்து போகும். உங்களால் முடியாதது ஒன்றும் இராது என நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன்”.

நம்பிக்கை குறைவுதான் இயலாமைக்கு காரணம் என்று இங்கு இயேசு உறுதிப்படுத்துகிறார். நம்பிக்கை உள்ளவன் எதையும் சாதிக்க முடியும் எல்லாவற்றையும் சாதிக்க முடியும். கடவுளால் முடியாதது ஒன்றுமில்லை அதேபோல் கடவுள் மேல் நம்பிக்கை வைப்பவனும் பெரியன செய்வான்.

GOSPEL READING: John 12:24-26

Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.

The thinking pattern of Jesus and the thinking pattern of the world are different. The thinking of the world is time bound and limited by material experiences and it is bound up by senses (seeing, hearing, touching, smelling etc). The world cannot think beyond death, end, time-bound.

Jesus thinks beyond death and he thinks of things after resurrection. That is the reason he could speak of after life, eternal life, fruit, reward etc. Wheat can keep on producing fruit; life can go on and on when seen in a resurrection perspective. Jesus expects his disciples to enter into this thought pattern and the way to live this life pattern is through service.

இயேசுவின் சிந்தனைகளும் போதனைகளும் உயிர்ப்பையும் உயிர்ப்புக்கு அப்பால் உள்ள உலகையும் பற்றியது. இவ்வுலகை சார்ந்த சிந்தனைகள் அழிவைப் பற்றியும் இறப்பைப் பற்றியும்தான் நினைக்கும். இயேசுவின் சிந்தனைகள் மறுஉலகை பற்றியும், உயிர்ப்பை பற்றியும், பலன்களைப் பற்றியும் இருக்கும். பணிவாழ்வு இச்சிந்தனை உலகுக்கு நம்மை இட்டுச் செல்லும்.
