Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 12:46-50

“Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father is my brother, and sister, and mother.”

Jesus was addressing the crowd. Among the crowd there were also the mother of Jesus and his brothers. The crowd recognized them and the acknowledged them as his relations. The crowd acknowledged them as his human relations. As human relation the crowd expected Jesus also to acknowledge them and give them their due preference and importance. This is normal and natural.

Jesus saw only the relations of the word of God. He recognized those who were related to him through the word of God and executed the will of the Father and he acknowledged them as his relatives. This was the first and important relationship for Jesus. This did not in any way exclude the human relations in fact it included them much more. Mary was not only his human and earthly mother but much more because she was the one who said yes to the word of God and the will of God.

‘என் தாயும் சகோதரர்களும் இவர்களே. விண்ணகத்திலுள்ள என் தந்தையின் திருவுளத்தை நிறைவேற்றுபவரே என் சகோதரரும் சகோதரியும் தாயும் ஆவார்”

இயேசுவை பின்தொடர்ந்த மக்கள் மரியாவை இவ்வுலகில் இயேசுவின் தாயாகவும் உறவினராகவும் ஏற்று கொண்டார்கள். அது சரியானதே. மரியா இயேவின் தாய் (உலக கண்ணோட்டத்தில், உடல், மனித கண்ணோட்டத்தில்). ஆனால் இயேசு உறவினர்களை மற்றொரு கண்ணோட்டத்தில் பார்க்கிறார். அவருக்கு உறவு என்பது இறைவார்த்தையோடு இறைசித்தத்தோடு இனைந்தது. இந்த இறைவார்த்தை, இறைசித்த உறவு மனித உறவையும் உள்ளடக்கியது.

An evil and unfaithful generation seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it except the sign

Jesus takes this chance to present the sad character and condition of the generation among whom he was living. He speaks of a generation that refused to be reformed. It was a generation that was ruined. This generation is talked about in connection to the judgment. Now they look different (they could change themselves now) but on the judgment day and that too on the last judgment day there will not be any chance for changing.

People of Nineveh repented when they heard the word of God through Prophet Jonah. Similarly the queen of the south will also condemn these people because these people did not recognize the wisdom of God present among them. On the last judgment day there will not be possibility for repentance and hence these people who did not repent now and did not recognize the presence of God in Jesus will stand condemned.

இந்த தலைமுறையினர் தீயவர்கள் ஏனெனில் இவர்கள் மனம் திரும்ப மறுக்கின்றனர். இறைவார்த்தையை ஏற்க மறுக்கின்றனர். இது விபவாரத் தலைமுறையினர் ஏனெனில் இவர்கள் உண்மை கடவுளை மறந்து பிற தெய்வங்களை வணங்குகிறார்கள். தீர்ப்பு நாளில் (இறுதி நாளில்) மனம் திரும்ப காலம் இருக்காது. நினிவே மக்கள் இவர்களைக் கண்டனம் செய்வார்கள்; தென்னாட்டு அரசி இவர்களைக் கண்டனம் செய்வார். கண்டனம் உறுதி.
