GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 6:19-23

But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal.

Earthly treasures have limitations. They can be destroyed, stolen, decayed and eaten by insects. In short, earthly treasures do not last for long time. They have to be cared for, and protected if one wants the treasures to last long. Whatever is earthly is of this type. Heavenly treasures are just the opposite of this.

Treasure controls the owner. The owner of the treasure is constantly preoccupied about the treasures and indirectly his heart is where the treasure is. If the treasure is in heaven then the heart is also in heaven.

ஆனால், விண்ணுலகில் உங்கள் செல்வத்தைச் சேமித்து வையுங்கள். அங்கே ப+ச்சியோ துருவோ அழிப்பதில்லை. திருடரும் கன்னமிட்டுத் திருடுவதில்லை.

உலக செல்வங்கள் அழியக்கூடியவை, திருடப்படக்கூடியவை. உலக செல்வங்கள் பாதுகாக்கப்படவேண்டும். விண்ணுலக செல்வங்கள் இதற்கு மாறானவை. செல்வங்கள் உள்ள இடத்தில்தான் உள்ளம் இருக்கும். உள்ளங்கள் செல்வங்களின், செல்வங்கள் இருக்கும் இடத்தின் வெளிப்பாடு.

Our Father in Heaven

God is a father. As a father he knows all the needs of the children even before they ask. He is a father of all those who address him as father. Israelites when they came out of Egypt they came out with one idea: one God; one people. He was a god for all. This God has now become a father because of Jesus. Jesus has revealed this aspect of god. He is a God of relationship (father –children).

Though he is a father, because he is the God his covenantal relationship needs to be kept in mind (in the ten commandments God demanded that his days be kept holy and name be held high etc). Covenantal relationship demanded that there be smooth and good relationship among the people (forgive us our sins as we forgive those…). Prayer stresses that the covenant relationship which should develop into a family relationship.

விண்ணுலகிலிருக்கிற எங்கள் தந்தையே

இயேசு கற்றுக்கொடுக்கும் ஜெபம் உடன்படிக்கை உறவை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறது. உடன்படிக்கையில் இறைவனுக்கும் மக்களுக்கும் இடையே உள்ள கடமைகள் அதேபோல் மக்கள் (தங்களுக்குள்ளே) இடையே உள்ள கடமைகள் கூறப்படுகின்றன. இயேசு, இந்த ஜெபத்தில் உடன்படிக்கை உறவை குடும்ப உறவாக (இன்னும் நெருக்கமான, ஆழமான) வாழ்ந்து காட்டி மேலும் வாழ்ந்து காட்ட அழைக்கிறார். தந்தை பிள்ளைகள் உறவுதான் அது.
