Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 10:22-30

Here the people are not asking for a sign instead they are asking him to talk in plain terms. They want him to make a straight statement regarding his messiahship. Jesus has said everything openly but only the people have not believed in him. Jesus has said everything, he has worked miracles and he has given signs yet the people have not believed.

All the works that Jesus has done are in the name of the Father. They are the witnesses to him that he and the Father are one and also that he has come from the Father. The people do not believe in him because they do not belong to him. They do not belong to his fold.

இயேசு வெளிப்படையாக பேசவேண்டும் என்று மக்கள் எதிர்பார்கிறார்கள். இயேசுவும் அவர்களிடம் அவ்வாறே பேசியதாகச் சொல்கிறார். மக்களிடம் நம்பிக்கையில்லை என்று இயேசு கூறுகிறார். இயேசுவும் தந்தையும் ஒன்றாய் இருக்கிறார்கள் என்பதே அவர் வெளிப்படுத்திய சிறந்த உண்மை. மக்கள் அதை ஏற்க மறுக்கிறார்கள்.

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 10:1-10

Sheep get used to people and sounds. Sheep recognize the shepherd and also his voice. The shepherd also knows the sheep individually. Because he calls them by name: their specific identity. More than the shepherd recognizing the sheep, the sheep recognize the shepherd and that is the reason they follow him. There is familiarity, acceptance, understanding, recognition, and following. Anyone else is a stranger and he is a thief. He comes only to disturb and destroy.

Jesus here uses another identity mark for himself: I am the gate. He talked about himself as the shepherd and the gatekeeper etc and now he calls himself as the gate. This to say that, he is the entry point for the sheep that belong to the fold. There is no other way to enter into the fold and even to care for the sheep. Neither the sheep not the keeper who does not enter through Jesus will not have access.

இயேசு தன்னையே நல்ல மேய்ப்பனாகவும், காவலனாகவும், வாயிலாகவும் ஒப்பிட்டு பேசுகிறார். இதன் வழியாக தனக்கும் மந்தைக்கும் உள்ள உறவை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறார். அவர்களிடையே புரிதல்> பழக்கம்> தெறிந்துகொள்ளுதல், ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளுதல்> பின்செல்லுதல் போன்றவை இருக்கும். அவர்தான் வாயில் என்று சொல்லுதல் வழியாக அவரன்றி, அவர்வழியாக அன்றி யாரும் உள்ளே செல்லவோ, தொடர்பு கொள்ளவோ, உறவுகொள்ளவோ முடியாது.
