Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 18: 9-14

Two people went up to the temple area to pray. These persons believed in the same God. They went to the same place (Temple) and their aim was to pray. Everything was same except that they (the two) were different. The external difference is not anything of great importance. (One was a Pharisee and the other was a tax collector).

The significant difference is in their attitude. The Pharisee spoke from his point of view and everything was seen keeping himself as the point of reference and centre. God was only addressed to. The tax collector, instead, addressed the same God but kept God as the centre his own position in front of this God. The right attitude is to keep God as the centre and the prime thing.

ஒரே கடவுள்;  ஒ ரே வழிபாட்டு தளம்; ஒரே நேரம்; ஏன் ஒருவர் ஏற்புடையவராக இருக்க மற்றவர் மறுக்கப்படுகிறார்? ஒருவரின் மனநிலையே முக்கியமானது. காயீன் ஆபேல் கதையிலும் இதுவே காணப்படுகிறது. காயீனின் மனநிலை அதன்பின் வரும் நிகழ்வில் வெளிப்படுகிறது.  இறைவனை மையப்படுத்தி முன்னிலைபடுத்துதலே சிறந்த ம னநிலை.

GOSPEL  READING:  MARK 12:28-34

Jesus and the Scribe are answering to the same question. Both are correct with regard to their answer. One is (in the) the kingdom and the other is closer to the kingdom. It is the attitude that makes the difference. With regard to knowledge even the scribe is correct. One may have the knowledge of God and the kingdom and yet not in the kingdom.

The scribe accepted that love of God and love of the neighbour are two parts of the same greatest commandment. This commandment is prior to sacrifices etc. But the scribe wanted to test Jesus. He wanted to see whether Jesus was correct in the knowledge of the laws. The scribe had a doubt about Jesus. People of knowledge can think that the others are unaware of the truths. Kingdom is knowledge + acceptance + life.

மறைநூல்  அறிஞர்  ஒழுங்குகளை  அறிந்திருந்தார்.  அவர்  மனதிலே சந்தேகங்கள்  இருந்தன.  இறையாட்சிக்கு  அறிவுமட்டும்  போதாது.  அறிவு இறையாட்சிக்கு  அருகில்  ஒருவரைக்  கொண்டு  வரலாம்.  மனநிலை அவசியமானது.  அறிவு வாழ்க்கையை  மாற்ற வேண்டும்.  பிறரை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளும்  மனநிலை  அவசியமானது.
