GOSPEL READING: JOHN 12:24-26

The Father will honor whoever serves me.

Anything buried is considered to be lost or hidden. Death was considered to be the end of everything. Jesus considers death and burial as something positive and life giving. It is not just the re-living of one life rather death brings much harvest. The example of the wheat is beautiful to speak of death and lose but gain beyond compare.

Here service is considered as following Jesus. Doing service to Jesus or for Jesus (and later on he would say) in the name of Jesus makes one a follower. So the identity of the follower of Jesus is service. And whoever does service will also be close to Jesus and receive honour from God.

எனக்குத் தொண்டு செய்வோருக்குத் தந்தை மதிப்பளிக்கிறார்.

இறப்பு, அழிவு போன்றவைகள் எதிர்மறை நிகழ்வுகள் அல்ல மாறாக வாழ்வுதரும் கனிதரும் பயன்உள்ள நிகழ்வுகள். அதேபோல் இயேசுவுக்காக செய்யும் செயல்களும் (சேவைகள்) ஒருவரை இயேசுவின் சீடராக்கும், இயேசுவோடு இனைந்து வாழச்செய்யும் தந்தையின் மதிப்பினையும் பெறும்.

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 16:24-28

What can one give in exchange for his life?

Life is the first gift and we could very well say that the only gift that God has given to man (because through life we receive or recognize the other gifts). Only a man with life can ever imagine of the other gifts and enjoy other gifts. No one will be able to imagine what a person would if he had no life (he would not be a person). Everything is empty and useless without life.

There is nothing in this world in exchange for life. Even the whole world would be of no use in exchange for life. The author of the gospel tells indirectly that that there is one thing that would stand up against life and that could go in exchange for life. Jesus is the only thing (person) that should go in exchange for life.

அவர் தம் வாழ்வுக்கு ஈடாக எதைக் கொடுப்பார்?

வாழ்வுதான் இறைவன் கொடுக்கிற முதல் கொடை மட்டுமல்லா மாறாக ஒரே கொடை. ஏனெனில் வாழ்வு இருந்தால்தான் மற்ற கொடைகளை பெறமுடியும் அனுபவிக்க முடியும். வாழ்வுக்கு ஈடாக இவ்வுலகில் எதுவும் இல்லை இயேசு கிறிஸ்து ஒருவரைத்தவிர. அதாவது இயேசு கிறிஸ்து தான் இறைவன் கொடுக்கும் ஒரே கொடை ஒப்பற்ற கொடை.
