28.05.2013 GIVE UP

Posted under Reflections on May 28th, 2013 by

GOSPEL READING: MARK 10:28-31

“We have given up everything and followed you.”

Everyone feels that he has done much for God. Like Peter we feel that we have done much for God yet we are attached to our own things and attached to even giving up things for God. We credit ourselves with much.

Giving up things and persons and events are necessary for the kingdom. They are the road to kingdom. Giving up things is also necessary also for entering into eternal life. Giving up should be total and complete. Reward is in no way proportionate to giving up. Reward is far beyond comparison with respect to giving up. Giving up should be total and it should also be followed by following Jesus.

27.05.2013 GOD IS GOOD

GOSPEL READING: MARK 10:17-27

No one is good but God alone.

The revelation of God by Jesus is something worth reflecting. In this passage Jesus reveals two qualities of God. One is that God alone is good and no other. The second quality is that everything is possible for God. These two qualities of God are essential to understand the mind of Jesus about God.

The rich young man who came to Jesus was a religious person in the normal understanding. But he was attached to his wealth and that was a distraction for him from following God. Even religious persons can be away from God because of their attachment to wealth. God demands total surrender to him.
