Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 21:20-25

“What if I want him to remain until I come? What concern is it of yours? You follow me.”

Jesus has a plan for each of his disciples and the plans differ one from the other. No two plans are the same with regard to the mission, execution of the mission and the end of the mission. But all follow the same Lord. Jesus is telling his disciples not to be worried about their individual differences and waste time arguing about it and finding reasons for the differences. The reasons are known to Jesus and that is it.

The disciple’ whole aim should be to follow Jesus. The individual disciple should look at Jesus whom he is following and go on ahead and he should not look around to see the other followers and how they are going about. And that is the reason Jesus says: ‘what concern is it of yours’. The only concern of the disciple is to follow Jesus and keep following and keep on following.

‘நான் வரும்வரை இவன் இருக்க வேண்டும் என நான் விரும்பினால் உனக்கு என்ன? நீ என்னைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து வா”

சீடத்துவம் என்பது இயேசுவை பின்செல்லுதல்தான். மற்;ற சீடன் எப்படி அவனின் பணி அல்லது அவனின் பணியின்நிறைவு போன்றவற்றைப் பற்றி விவாதிப்பது அல்ல. அவைகள் எல்லாம் இயேசுவின் விருப்பத்தில் (நான் விரும்பினால்) அடங்கும்.

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 21:15-19

“Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.”

This is one of the best expressions made by Peter. There is another statement in which he expressed “where shall we go for you have the words of eternal life”. Peter was very close to Jesus and he had seen everything of Jesus’ activities. So these expressions were not made without serious thinking. What he had seen and experienced was what he expressed.

The expression of Peter reveals the understanding Peter has of Jesus. For Peter, Jesus is a person who knows everything. He knows everything about Peter (about everyone) and he also knows that the intentions of Peter and his activities. Jesus also knows the internal feeling of a person. It is this understanding that makes Peter to commit himself to Jesus.

‘ஆண்டவரே உமக்கு எல்லாம் தெரியுமே! எனக்கு உம்மீது அன்பு உண்டு என்பது நீர் அறியாத ஒன்றா?” என்றார்.

இயேசுவுக்கு எல்லாம்தெரிந்தவர் என்பது பேதுருவின் மனநிலை. பேதுருவைப்பற்றியும் அவரது மனதில் என்ன ஓடுகிறது என்பதையும் இயேசு நன்கு அறிந்திருந்தார். இதனால்தான் பேதுரு தனது வாழ்வை முழுமையாக இயேசுவுக்கு அர்ப்பணித்திருந்தார்.
