Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 9:32-38

Jesus went around to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and curing every disease and illness.

Jesus was preaching the kingdom and doing the works of the kingdom. This was seen different by Pharisees and the crowd. Pharisees always see him negatively. They were not able to see the good that was done. They have negative perception of everything. For the even the good was done by the demon. How can good come out of evil?

The people saw in Jesus a prophet and a man of God. They see the good done by Jesus. They admired him at this. Jesus also saw in the people their simplicity and innocence. Because this they were also troubled by the others. Jesus compared them to be sheep without a shepherd. They had no leader for them and they were cheated by the other leaders.

இயேசு நகர்கள், சிற்றூர்கள் எல்லாம் சுற்றிவந்தார். எங்கும் அவர்களுடைய தொழுகைக் கூடங்களில் கற்பித்தார்@ விண்ணரசைப் பற்றிய நற்செய்தியைப் பறைசாற்றினார்@ நோய் நொடிகள் அனைத்தையும் குணமாக்கினார்.

இயேசுவின் பணிகளின் சுருக்கம் அல்லது தொகுப்பு என்று சொல்லலாம். ஆனால் பரிசேயர்கள் இதை வேறுவிதமாகப் பார்க்கிறார்கள். தீய கண்ணோட்டத்தோடு பார்ப்பதால் அவரின் செயல்களை தீயோனின் செயல்கள் என்று கூறினர். மக்கள் வியப்புற்றார்கள். ஆயனில்லா ஆடுகள் போல வழி அறியாது தவித்தனர்.

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 9:18-26

And they ridiculed him.

In today’s gospel passage we see two people who believed in Jesus. One was an official and the other was a woman suffering from haemorrhages. The official expressed his faith and the other did not express it openly but believed within her. Jesus worked miracle for the people who have faith in him either openly expressed or had faith internally.

The crowd that followed him might have believed in him. They did not see the miracle worked on the woman. They could not witness it. But the crowd at the house of the official did not believe in him. They ridiculed him because he was speaking of something which was humanly impossible. But the faith of the one believing person among the crowd that ridiculed him worked miracle.
