Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 4:18-22

“Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Jesus called the first disciples from among the fishermen. This is what we see in the synoptic gospels. But in the gospel of John we do not see this way. John and Andrew are the disciples of John the Baptist and then they become the disciples of Jesus.

They were fishermen; and they were talented in this only; and they knew only this work. And Jesus says ‘I will make you fishers of men’. Jesus asks them to do the same work. Jesus asks them to the same work but for the kingdom and in the kingdom among people. Jesus speaks to them in a language that they understand.

‘என் பின்னே வாருங்கள்; நான் உங்களை மனிதரைப் பிடிப்பவர் ஆக்குவேன்”

மீனவர்களுக்கு தெரிந்தருந்த அதே பணியைத்தான் செய்யச் சொல்கிறார். செய்கின்ற பணிக்கு முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுக்கிறார். அவர்களுக்கு தெரிந்திருந்ததிலிருந்து புதுவாழ்வைத் துவங்குகிறார். இறையாட்சி பணி என்பது அதே பணி; அதே பணியாளர்கள்; ஆனால் அது மக்கள் பணி: மக்களுக்காக; மக்களோடு.

And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

Jesus is talking about the destruction of Jerusalem. It is a political situation; natural situation. Jerusalem gets destroyed because of the Roman invasion. Natural happening are a constant reminder to the people about the impending final end. Every natural end should not be talked about as the final end but it is a reminder.

Final end will be the upsetting of the whole universe. The whole of creation will go through a change and how it will be is not known to the people. And the time of its happening is also not known to anyone. However such an end will be accompanied by the coming of the Son of Man. It will not a destruction but rather it will be a new creation (stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand).

மிகுந்த வல்லமையோடும் மாட்சியோடும் மானிட மகன் மேகங்கள் மீது வருவதை அவர்கள் காண்பார்கள்.

அழிவுகள், மறைவுகள் உலக நிகழ்வுகள், உலக நியதியும் கூட. இதை உலக முடிவாக கருதிவிடக்கூடாது. ஊலக அழிவு என்பது வேறு. அதைப்பற்றி யாருக்கும் தெரியாது யாரும் விளக்கம் கொடுக்க முடியாது. அது மானிட மகனின் வருகையே.
