Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 13:44-46

The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field.

Kingdom of heaven is a hidden treasure. It is a pearl of great price. These two descriptions show that the kingdom of heaven is not seen casually. It is hidden and hence it has to be revealed and it is revealed only to a few. Again pearl of great price is not seen in the streets or in the market places. The buyer has to desire for it and go after it.

The kingdom of heaven demands sacrifice; sacrifice of all what one possesses and all what one could have had. The buyer had to sell everything; in a sense lose everything; let go everything. The outcome of this is great joy. Everyone longs to be happy and joyful. The goal of life is to be joyful and man runs after things that would make him joyful. The kingdom of heaven is the only thing that would make him happy and joyful.

விண்ணரசு இப்புதையலுக்கு ஒப்பாகும்.

விண்ணரசு புதையலைப்போன்றது எளிதில் கண்ணுக்கு புலப்படாது; விலை உயர்ந்த ஒரு முத்தைப்போன்றது எளிதில் கிடைக்காது. விண்ணரசில் வாழ விரும்புகிறவன் தமக்குள்ள யாவற்றையும் விற்று; தமக்குள்ள யாவற்றையும் இழந்துதான் பெறமுடியும். அதுதான் முழு மகிழ்ச்சியை தரும். விண்ணரசில்தான் முழு மகிழ்ச்சி, நிறை மகிழ்ச்சி உள்ளது.

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 13:36-43

Then, dismissing the crowds, he went into the house. His disciples approached him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”

The disciples always ask for extra explanations. It could be because they were of slow of learning (slower than the ordinary people) or they needed extra information which was not given to the ordinary people or they were very keen on knowing more things. The disciples had special tuition and extra classes.

Jesus beautifully summarises the story of the history of the people in just a short story. History should be seen in relation to God, evil, humans and end of the word. God created the word for a particular purpose. God wanted the world to be filled with good people (children of the kingdom) but children of the evil one are found in the world. It is God who will separate the evil and the good and give them their due. It is a beautiful theological history.

அதன் பின்பு இயேசு மக்கள் கூட்டத்தினரை அனுப்பிவிட்டு வீட்டுக்குள் வந்தார். அப்போது அவருடைய சீடர்கள் அவரருகே வந்து, ‘வயலில் தோன்றிய களைகள் பற்றிய உவமையை எங்களுக்கு விளக்கிக் கூறும்” என்றனர்.

இயேசு இந்த உவமை வழியாக மக்களின் இறையியல் வரலாற்று கதையை மிக சுருக்கமாக கூறுகிறார். இறைவன் இவ்வுலகை படைத்தது நல்ல மக்களை, கடவுளின் ஆட்சிக்கு உட்பட்ட மக்களை உருவாக்க. ஆனால் தீயோனைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள். இறுதிநாளில் முடிவை இறைவன் எடுப்பார். இறுதிநாள்வரை தீமையும் நன்மையும் ஒன்றாய் இருக்கும். உலக முடிவில்த்தான் நன்மை தீமை இரண்டும் பிரிக்கப்படும்.
