Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 8: 4-15

But as for the seed that fell on rich soil, they are the ones who, when they have heard the word, embrace it with a generous and good heart, and bear fruit through perseverance.

Jesus came into the world to announce and proclaim the good news (it was about the kingdom of God). Later he became the good news himself. His life and mission became the good news and he spoke this to his listeners in stories and parables. He was talking to the simple people and he had to use parables (stories of normal happenings in their lives).

The word of God that he came to communicate was received differently by people. All were given the word of God; all received it. Some lost the effects of the word of God because of the workings of the evil one; others received it gladly but worldly anxieties and worries made them lose the word of God; yet others received it for a short while but lost the word in times of temptations and trials. But people who are good, generous and persevere till the end (test of time and situation) are the rich.

நல்ல நிலத்தில் விழுந்த விதைகளோ, சீரிய நல் உள்ளத்தோடு வார்த்தையைக் கேட்டு> அதைக் காத்து, மன உறுதியுடன் பலன் தருகிறவர்களைக் குறிக்கும்”.

இயேசுவின் வாழ்வும் பணியும் இந்த உவமை வழியாக சித்தரிக்கப்படகிறது. இயேசு இறையாட்சிப் பணிக்காக இவ்வுலகிற்கு வந்தார். இறைவார்த்தையை போதிப்பதன் வழியாக அப்பணியை நிறைவு செய்கிறார். மக்கள் அதை ; பலவேறு விதமாக பெறுகிறார்கள். கால, சமூக சூழல்கள் அவர்களை பாதிக்கின்றன. கால சமூக சூழல்களை கடந்து மன உறுதியுடனும் நல்ல உள்ளத்துடனும் நிலைத்திருப்பவர் பலன் தருவர்.

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 9:9-13

Go and learn the meaning of the words, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”

People offer sacrifices to God. Sacrifices are not offered to men. Mercy is shown to human beings. No one can show mercy to God and God does not need the mercy of man to live. Mercy reflects the right relationship between men (what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? Mic 6:8). God desires that the relationships between men are shown through mercy and they are set right before relationship with God in sacrifice (cf Mt 5:24).

People who consider themselves holy do not in general associate with the sinners. They do not like to pollute their relationship because they want to be holy always in front of God. To be in right relationship with God is a good thing and to be holy is a right thing too. But if holiness leads one to be divisive and exclusive then it is not Godly. Jesus has come to create an inclusive community.

‘பலியை அல்ல, இரக்கத்தையே விரும்புகிறேன்’ என்பதன் கருத்தை நீங்கள் போய்க் கற்றுக்கொள்ளுங்கள்; ஏனெனில் நேர்மையாளரை அல்ல, பாவிகளையே அழைக்க வந்தேன்” என்றார்.

பலிகள் வழியாக மனிதன் கடவுளோடு கொண்டுள்ள உறவை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறான்; அல்லது உறவை சரி செய்கின்றான். இரக்கம் மனிதன் பிறரோடு கொண்டுள்ள உறவை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறது அல்லது சரிசெய்கிறது. மனித உறவுகள் இரக்கத்தினால் சரிசெய்யப்படுவது, பலிகளினால் இறை-மனித உறவு சரிசெய்யப்படுவதைவிடச் சிறந்தது. மனித சமூகம் அனைவரையும் உள்ளடக்கக் கூடிய ஒன்றாக இருக்கவேண்டும்.
