GOSPEL  READING:  MATTHEW 25:31-46

 

Son of Man is presented as coming in glory. But the imageries used to describe his roles are different. He is seated upon his glorious throne. He is there as a judge because the whole of creation is in front of him (all the angels and all the nations). He does the work of a shepherd. He is present there as a king. He is also present there on behalf of the father. He is a shepherd king who judges on behalf of the father.

 

He rewards the sheep-like-people (doers of good to the others) with kingdom and he punishes the goat-like people (non-doers of good to the others) with hell fire. Interestingly, the shepherd king who judges these nations identifies himself with the little ones who are in need of the very basic things of life (food, water, clothes, shelter, care and relationship).

இயேசு தன்னை ஒரு நடுவராக, ஒரு அரசனாக, ஒரு ஆயனாக, தந்தையின் சார்பாக இருப்பவராக சித்தரிக்கிறார். நன்மை செய்பவருக்கு இறையாட்சியை வழங்குகிறார்; செய்யாதவருக்கு எரிநரகம். நன்மை செய்பவர்கள் அரும்பெரும் செயல்கள் செய்யவில்லை; மாறாக அடிப்படை தேவைகளை (உணவு, தண்ணீர், உடை, உறைவிடம், உறவு) அடுத்திருப்பவருக்கு செய்தார்கள். இயேசு மிகச் சிறியவராகிய அடுத்திருப்பவர்.  

 

 

 

GOSPEL  READING:  MARK 1:12-15

 

Jesus was baptized in Jordan. He was about to begin his public ministry. Between these two events he was in the desert and remained there for forty days. Mark does not speak about fasting. The words desert and forty (days) immediately takes the reader to the exodus event. The redeemed people were in the desert for forty years and they were in the desert.

 

The place and the time (duration) were needed for the people of Israel to have God experience, the experience the presence of God (Ex 13: 22), the experience of the care and protection of God (Ex 16 & 17), and the covenant relationship of God (Ex 20). Jesus has re-lived these experiences and that was the reason he was driven to the desert by the spirit and remained there for forty days.

 

With these experiences (presence, protection, care, and relationship) in the desert for forty days, Jesus begins his public ministry. And this is the reason why he could say that the kingdom of God is at hand. With his experience he could boldly invite the people to experience God through repentance and belief in the Gospel.

 

நற்செய்தி வாசகம்: மாற்கு 1:12-15

 

நாற்பது நாள்கள் பாலைநிலத்தில் (நேரமும் இடமும்) இயேசு இருந்தார் என்பது நாற்பது ஆண்டுகள் பாலைநிலத்தில் இஸ்ராயேல் மக்கள் வாழ்ந்ததையும் அனுபவங்களையும் முன்வைக்கிறது. நாற்பது ஆண்டுகள் பாலைநிலத்தில் இறைவனின் உடனிருப்பை (வி.ப. 13:22), இறைவனின் பராமரிப்பை (வி.ப. 16 & 17), உடன்படிக்கை உறவை (வி.ப. 20) அனுபவித்தார்கள். இயேசுவும் அதே அனுபவங்களை பெற்று பொதுப்பணியை துவங்குகிறார். எனவேதான் இறையாட்சி அருகிலிருக்கிறது என்று அவர் கூறமுடிகிறது. மனம் திரும்ப நற்செய்தியை நம்பி வாழ அழைக்க முடிகிறது.
