21.05.11 FATHER DWELLS IN JESUS

Posted under Reflections on May 20th, 2011 by

If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him." Philip said to him, "Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us." Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else, believe because of the works themselves.  Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father. And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it. (Jn 14: 7-14)

The demand made by Philip to see the father is a justifiable one. Jesus has been talking about the father so much and he has also said that he has come to reveal the father to the world and take the world to the father. Like Philip everyone wants to relate to God and be in union with the father. Everyone wants to have direct access to the father.

Jesus confirms to Philip that to have seen Jesus is to have seen the father. So the father is in Jesus. Jesus his speeches and his activities are the revelation of the father. These revelations are so perfect that in them the father is present. That is why Jesus is the father. (Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me.)

Those who see the father in Jesus and believe that the father is in Jesus will do greater activities that in turn will reveal the father. God is in the world and he is present in the world and in the persons who believe in him. This reality has to become total and complete. The world has to possess God and reveal God.

20.05.11 JESUS IS THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be. Where (I) am going you know the way." Thomas said to him, "Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (Jn 14:1-6)

Troubled hearts are the signs of lack of faith. This true in the society and it is true in any relationships and it true also in the kingdom. Faith in God and faith in Jesus will be revealed only in untroubled hearts. Troubled hearts are those that give importance to material things; to security; to safety. What is visible, tangible and sure are the concerns of those who are of troubled hearts.

Jesus is interested in bringing the people who follow him to the father. Father’s place is so enormous that there is place for everyone. Jesus’ works among the people are not just to prepare them to be with the father, it is also to prepare the places for them. In a sense , (it is only for our understanding)the work is  to prepare the father. This is also to make the next statement that I am the way.

"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”. Way is not a road; truth is not a principle; and life is not being alive. All these are Jesus. It is a person. Jesus the person, the individual is the way, he is the truth and he is the life. If one has Jesus in him then he is on the right track and he speaks the truth and he is living. If Jesus is not in him, though he may on the road, though he may be talking principle, though he may be living, yet he is dead, he is telling lies and he is on the wrong track.
