Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 14:25-33

In the same way, every one of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple.

Jesus had many followers (great crowds) and from among the followers Jesus had chosen few to be his disciples. One of the requirements for the discipleship is hate the father, mother and other relations. How could this be? and why should this be so?. Christianity is supposed to be a religion based on relationship and building up of family. It is shocking to see that Jesus asking his disciples to hate.

Jesus is not denying the importance of close family but when there is an urgent task to be done then one should be ready to renounce everything including one’s own life for the sake of the kingdom.

எல்லாவற்றையும் விட்டுவிட தயாராய் இருப்பவனே சீடனாக இருக்க முடியும். உறவுக்கு முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுக்கும் இயேசு உறவையும் வெறுக்கச் சொல்லுகிறார். (என்னிடம் வருபவர் தம் தந்தை, தாய், மனைவி, பிள்ளைகள், சகோதரர் சகோதரிகள் ஆகியோரையும், ஏன், தம் உயிரையுமே என்னைவிட மேலாகக் கருதினால், அவர் என் சீடராயிருக்க முடியாது.)

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 14:15-24

“Blessed is the one who will dine in the kingdom of God.”

Kingdom is also a place of great dinner, and table fellowship. Kingdom is also a place of invitation. Only invited people are welcome. The servants are there to make sure that the invited guests come in. The servants go in search of them. Invited people are as usual busy. They have other worries and interests but they lack concern for the kingdom.

Kingdom gathers people who are free; people who are free of other cares and concerns and worries. Kingdom is a place of free people. People who are busy and over worked with other concerns and distracted with many other things will not fit in the kingdom. Kingdom liberates and gathers people who are liberated.

‘இறையாட்சி விருந்தில் பங்கு பெறுவோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்”.

இறையாட்சி விருந்தில் பங்கு பெறுவோர் சுதந்தரமாக இருக்கவேண்டும். கவலைகளும் கடமைகளும் கொண்டவர்கள் இறையாட்சி விருந்தில் பங்கு கொள்ளமுடியாது. அவர்களின் எண்ணங்கள் எல்லாம் வேறு எங்கோ இருக்கும் இறையாட்சியில், இறையாட்சி விருந்தில், இறையாட்சி மகிழ்சியில், இறையாட்சி சுதந்தரத்தில் இருக்காது.
