Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 1:57-66,80

All who heard these things took them to heart, saying, “What, then, will this child be?” For surely the hand of the Lord was with him.

Birth of a child and naming of the child are always occasions to celebrate. It is not a celebration for the family alone rather it is a celebration for the relatives and the neighbourhood. It is a public celebration. Birth is celebrated to thank God for the gift of life. Life is a free gift of God and in this case it is a special gift because Elizabeth was barren.

Naming the child is to recognize the child among the family and give a mission to the child. Name always carried the character of the child for the Israelites and in some cases the name specified the role and the function of the child. Celebration ended with a question and wonder: what will this child be?!

கேள்விப்பட்டவர்கள் யாவரும் இச்செய்தியைத் தங்கள் உள்ளங்களில் இருத்தி, ‘இக்குழந்தை எப்படிப்பட்டதாக இருக்குமோ?” என்று சொல்லிக் கொண்டார்கள். ஏனெனில் அக்குழந்தை ஆண்டவருடைய கைவன்மையைப் பெற்றிருந்தது.

குழந்தை பிறப்பும் பெயரிடுதலும் இஸ்ராயேல் மக்களிடையே கொண்டாடப்பட்டன. புpறப்பில் இறைவனுக்கு நன்றி செலுத்தினர். பெயரிடுதலில் அக்குழந்தைக்கான இறைதிட்டம் இறைசித்தம் வெளிப்படுத்தப்பட்டது. வழக்கத்திற்கு மாறான பெயராக இருந்ததால் உறவினர்களும் நண்பர்களும் ‘இக்குழந்தை எப்படிப்பட்டதாக இருக்குமோ?” என்று சொல்லிக் கொண்டார்கள். ஏனெனில் அக்குழந்தை ஆண்டவருடைய கைவன்மையைப் பெற்றிருந்தது.

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 6:24-34

If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith?

Jesus insists that his listeners should serve God and follow him only. If they do not follow after God then they will go after material things of the world. They will be worried about food and drink and clothes. Any person who worries about earthly material things does not have faith in God. A man of faith will not worry.

The material world themselves exhibit the care and concern of God. Even though they do not have faith or they cannot believe yet they exhibit their faith in God. It is not their faith that makes them live rather it is the care and concern of the father that keeps the material world going. God would do much more for men who are the crown of creation or created after his own image.

நம்பிக்கை குன்றியவர்களே, இன்றைக்கு இருந்து நாளைக்கு அடுப்பில் எறியப்படும் காட்டுப்புல்லுக்குக் கடவுள் இவ்வாறு அணிசெய்கிறார் என்றால் உங்களுக்கு இன்னும் அதிகமாகச் செய்ய மாட்டாரா?

வுhனத்துப் பறவைகளும் காட்டுமலர்ச் செடிகளும் விண்ணகத் தந்தையால் பாதுகாக்கப்பட்டு வளர்க்கப்படுகின்றன. இறைவனின் சாயலாகப் படைக்கப்பட்ட மனிதனை விண்ணகத் தந்தை கண்டிப்பாக கவனிப்பார். அறிவில்லா படைப்புகளுக்குள்ள நம்பிக்கை கூட மனிதனிடம் இல்லை. ஆகவேதான் இயேசு கூறுகிறார்: நாளைக்காகக் கவலைப்படாதீர்கள். ஏனெனில் நாளையக் கவலையைப் போக்க நாளை வழி பிறக்கும். அந்தந்த நாளுக்கு அன்றன்றுள்ள தொல்லையே போதும். கவலைப்படுதல் நம்பிக்கையின்மையை காட்டும்.
