GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 5:38-42

But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil.

Jesus tells his listeners not to resist evil. Jesus knows that evil will be there till the end of times. Evil will be destroyed only at the end of time. Evil is present in the world. Many try to fight against the evil with the same force (an eye for an eye…). Christian way of fight the evil is by doing good (Do not be conquered by evil but conquer evil with good – Rom 12:21).

Jesus proposes few ways of overcoming evil: 1) offer no resistance to one who is evil, 2) receive hurts even twice over, 3) hand over everything even the inner most things but do not go to fight for justice, 4) service should be double-folded (not one mile but go two) 5) give , give, keep on giving.

தீமை இவ்வுலகில் இருக்கிறது அது இறுதிவரை இருக்கும். தீமையை வெற்றிகொள்ள ஒரே வழி அதுவும் கிறிஸ்துவ வழி நன்மை செய்வதே (தீமை உங்களை வெல்லவிடாதீர்கள், நன்மையால் தீமையை வெல்லுங்கள்!). இயேசுவின் செயல்திட்டம் அதுவே: 1) தீமை செய்பவரை எதிர்க்க வேண்டாம். 2) உங்களுக்கு எதிராக வழக்கு தொடர்பவர்களுக்கு உள்ளது அனைத்தையும் கொடுங்கள். 3) உதவிநாடுவோருக்கு இரண்டுமடங்கு உதவுங்கள். 4) கேட்கிறவருக்குக் கொடுங்கள். 5) முகம் கோணாதீர்கள்.

GOSPEL READING: MARK 4:26-34

Without parables he did not speak to them, but to his own disciples he explained everything in private.

Jesus explains the kingdom through parables only. The qualities of the kingdom or the values of the kingdom are presented through these parables and stories. Yet we cannot say that this is the kingdom. One story cannot explain the kingdom completely. Kingdom is so expansive yet so inclusive that it cannot be easily defined and described. These parables are also explained privately to his disciples. They are not easily understandable or self explanatory.

Growth of the kingdom is imperceptible. Owner of the land or the worker in the land only sleeps and rises to find the kingdom growing (but he does scatter the seed). Growth is not through external forces. Another quality of the growth is that it is very much visible. Seed is so small and that is not even visible but the once the kingdom is grown it is so vast that everyone comes under its care and protection.

இறையாட்சியைப்பற்றி பேசும்போது இயேசு கதைகளையும் உவமைகளையும் பயன்படுத்தினார். எந்த ஒரு கதையோ முழுமையாக இறையாட்சியைப்பற்றி விளக்கவில்லை. ஒவ்வொரு கதையும் இறையாட்சியைப்பற்றிய ஒரு குணத்தையோ, ஒரு பண்பையோ வெளிப்படுத்தும். ஏனெனில் இறையாட்சி என்பது எல்லாவற்றையும் உள்ளடக்கக்கூடியது அதேநேரத்தில் எங்கும் பரந்து விரிந்து கிடப்பது.
