Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: MARK 12: 35-37

‘The Lord said to my lord, “Sit at my right hand until I place your enemies under your feet.”‘

The scribes claim that the Messiah is the son of David. Jesus shows the people how weak and defective the scribes were in their preaching, and how they were unable to solve the difficulties that occurred in the scriptures of the Old Testament. They struggled hard to interpret the scriptures. They interpreted the scriptures as they wanted and as the scriptures themselves lead them to interpret.

Messiah was not only the son of David but he was also to occupy the throne of David. Scriptures must be understood from the context of the bible and within the bible itself. Scriptures should not be interpreted in the context of the scribes or the preachers or the ministers. This is what Jesus teaches in this small passage. Scriptures is the best revealer and interpreter of Jesus.

‘மெசியா தாவீதின் மகன் என்று மறைநூல் அறிஞர் கூறிவந்தனர். ஆனால் இயேசுவைப்பற்றி மற்ற பகுதிகள் கூறுவதை அவர்கள் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளவில்லை. விவிலியம் அதன் பிண்ணனியிலேயே புரிந்துகொள்ளப்படவேண்டும். அறிஞர்கள் பிண்ணனியிலோ, நற்செய்தி பணியாளர்கள் பிண்ணனியிலோ புரிந்துகொள்ளப்படக்கூடாது. விவிலியத்திற்கு விளக்கம் விவிலியமே.

GOSPEL READING: MARK 12:28-34

The Lord our God is Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’

Though the Scribe is aware that Jesus has answered well the Sadducees, yet he tries to question Jesus. Sadducees asked question with regard to resurrection and now the Scribe asks question regarding the knowledge of scriptures. Scribe is trying to know whether Jesus knew the details of Scriptures.

Through this story the author is trying to communicate to the readers the basics of the belief of Jesus. Jesus is not only aware of the law but he also gives the implication of living the basic law. Love of God with all the heart, mind and soul should necessarily lead the man to love the neighbour.

இயேசுவின் அடிப்படை விசுவாசத்தை கேள்விக்கு உட்படுத்துகிறார் மறைநூல் அறிஞர். இயேசுவின் பதில் அவரை வியக்க வைக்கிறது. இயேசு உண்மையான அடிப்படையான கருத்தை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறார். அதுமட்டுமல்ல அதனுடைய விளக்கத்தையும் அது எப்படி வாழ்ந்து காட்டப்பட வேண்டும் என்பதையும் இயேசு கூறுகிறார்.
