GOSPEL READING: MARK 12: 18-27

“Are you not misled because you do not know the scriptures or the power of God?

Through scriptures God has revealed about himself and the world and the nature. Lack of knowledge of scriptures misleads one in his life. When there is no right understanding and complete understanding of scriptures one begins to create stories like the scribes which in turn make a farce of life and realities. Scriptures should be read and understood completely and rightly.

One of the main revelations in the scriptures is about God. In fact the whole bible speaks about God and his relationship with the people. Scriptures reveal that God is a God of the living. God revelation is that he is (YHWH). His essence is that he is (He is the eternal IS). He is a living God and he is the God of the living and hence there is no need to talk about the dead.

உங்களுக்கு மறைநூலும் தெரியாது> கடவுளின் வல்லமையும் தெரியாது. இதனால்தான் தவறான கருத்தைக் கொண்டிருக்கிறீர்கள்.

மறைநூல் கடவுளை வெளிப்படுத்தியது> கடவுளின் வல்லமையை வெளிப்படுத்தியது. ஆனால் இதை மறந்த தலைவர்கள் மறைநூலை வைத்து தாங்கள் சொல்ல விரும்பியதை சொன்னார்கள். மறைநூலை சிறைபிடிக்க முயலுகிறார்கள். ஆனால் இறைவார்த்தையை யாரும் சிறைபிடிக்க முடியாது. (ஆனால் கடவுளின் வார்த்தையைச் சிறைப்படுத்த முடியாது. 2திமொ 2:8)

GOSPEL READING: MARK 12:13-17

‘Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.’

The Pharisees and the Herodians wanted to trap Jesus in his words. They came near him and praised him with words that will make anyone forget himself because of the words of praise. Flattery is used to make the listener go flat. They say all good things about Jesus (though they say only what is true about Jesus) hoping that Jesus will be flattened by their saying so that they could trap him in an argument.

Jesus was aware of their hypocrisy and he answered their question and influenced by their flattery. Jesus was not affected by their sayings about him. In this he gave an important message to the people around. We are never in a purely secular world neither are we in purely religious world. So he said: ‘Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God’.

‘சீசருக்கு உரியவற்றைச் சீசருக்கும் கடவுளுக்கு உரியவற்றைக் கடவுளுக்கும் கொடுங்கள்”

இயேசுவை சிக்கவைக்கவே பரிசேயர்கள் ஏரோதியர்கள் வருகிறார்கள். இயேசுவை புகழ்ந்து பேசுகிறார்கள். புகழ்ந்து பேசுவது சிக்கவைக்கவே. புகழ்ச்சியை கேட்டு மக்கள் மயங்கிவிடுவார்கள். இயேசு அப்படி அல்ல. புகழ்ச்சி அவரை மயக்குவதில்லை. புகழ்ச்சி சொற்களுக்காக அவர் பதில் சொல்லவில்லை மாறாக கேள்விக்கு மட்டுமே பதில் சொல்கிறார்: ‘சீசருக்கு உரியவற்றைச் சீசருக்கும் கடவுளுக்கு உரியவற்றைக் கடவுளுக்கும் கொடுங்கள்”
