GOSPEL READING: MARK 11:27-33

“By what authority are you doing these things? Or who gave you this authority to do them?”…

Jesus returned to Jerusalem. This city was a place of authority. Political authority, social authority, civil authority, cultural authority and so on were exercised in this city. He was in the temple area. This was the place of religious authority. The chief priests, scribes and elders were people who exercised authority. They were threatened by the presence of Jesus and his exercise of authority.

Authority that was exercised had two sources: divine and human. The leaders of the people were afraid to accept any of the two. Both were leading them into problems. What they expected was no authority to be exercised except by them only. They were thinking of authority of the leaders and not of humans. They were creating a third front in authority which excluded both divine and human.

எருசலேம் நகரமும், கோயிலும் அதிகாரத் தலங்களாக இருந்தன. அங்கே சமுக, கலாச்சார, அரசியல், மதம் சார்ந்த அதிகாரங்கள் செயல்பட்டன. தலைமை குருக்களும், மறைநூல் அறிஞர்கள், மூப்பர்கள் தங்களிடம்தான் இருக்கிறது என்று கருதி இயேசுவை வினவுகிறார்கள். அதிகாரம் இறைசார்ந்தது அல்லது மனிதம் சார்ந்தது.

Text:
Then he taught them saying, “Is it not written: ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples’? But you have made it a den of thieves.”…
Therefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours. When you stand to pray, forgive anyone against whom you have a grievance, so that your heavenly Father may in turn forgive you your transgressions.”

Reflection:
The Temple in Jerusalem was the only place where God dwelt on earth. They had many places of prayers (synagogue). There was only one Temple and God was worshipped there because he was present there (there was the throne of God in the temple to represent his presence and there was the tabernacle which contained things which reminded them of God’s action among them in history).

This Temple was the social centre, political centre, cultural centre and religious centre. As a religious centre this was the meeting place of God and man. This was the meeting place of God and man and this was the place of communication between God and man. Man communed with God through worship that is through sacrifice and prayer.

வாசகம்:
‘~என் இல்லம் மக்களினங்கள் அனைத்திற்கும் உரிய இறைவேண்டலின் வீடு என அழைக்கப்படும்| என்று மறை நூலில் எழுதியுள்ளது|| என்று அவர்களுக்குக் கற்பித்தார் ‘ஆனால் நீங்கள் இதைக் கள்வர் குகையாக்கிவிட்டீர்கள் என்றார்…

நீங்கள் இறைவனிடம் வேண்டும்போது எவற்றையெல்லாம் கேட்பீர்களோ அவற்றைப் பெற்று விட்டீர்கள் என நம்புங்கள் நீங்கள் கேட்டபடியே நடக்கும். நீங்கள் வேண்டுதல் செய்ய நிற்கும்போது யார் மேலாவது நீங்கள் மனத்தாங்கல் கொண்டிருந்தால், மன்னித்து விடுங்கள். அப்போது உங்கள் விண்ணகத் தந்தையும் உங்கள் குற்றங்களை மன்னிப்பார்” என்று கூறினார்.

சிந்தனை:

எருசலேம் கோயில் மக்களுக்கு இறைபிரசன்னத்தின் அடையாளமாக இருந்தது. கோயிலில்தான் மக்கள் இறைவனை கண்டார்கள், இறைவனோடு உறவாடினார்கள், இறைவனோடு தொடர்பு கொண்டார்கள். அதனால்தான் அது இறைவேண்டலின் வீடு என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டது. இன்று அது ஒரு சமுதாய கூடமாக, கலாச்சார கூடமாக, ஒரு வியாபார கூடமாக செயல்பட்டது. இயேசு இந்த மனநிலையை, இந்த செயல்முறையை சாடுகிறார்.
