08.05.2012 PEACE A PARTING GIFT

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 14:27-31

Jesus will no longer speak with them. He has decided and he has accepted to go to the Father. The disciples should not be worried or troubled thinking that Jesus has left them alone. He leaves behind the peace. It is not calmness or tranquillity or undisturbed situation. The peace that Jesus leaves behind is something positive and it is strength for the disciples.

Again he speaks of the willingness and readiness with which he is going to the father. Jesus could do this only because he was convinced of his, and experienced his closeness with the father. In the gospel of John this closeness with the father is so much stressed that it is almost identical. That is the reason that Jesus could say that I and the father are one.
