So must the Son of Man be lifted up,
Christianity cannot be understood without the cross. Cross plays the central role in the life and mission of Christianity. St Paul had understood this rightly. We get numerous quotations on the theme of cross in his letters. For, I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ, and him crucified (1 Cor 2:2)
The work on the cross is beautifully summed up in these words: ‘obliterating the bond against us, with its legal claims, which was opposed to us, he also removed it from our midst, nailing it to the cross’ (Col 2:14). And the purpose of Cross and death on the cross was to: For he is our peace, he who made both one and broke down the dividing wall of enmity, through his flesh (Eph 2:14).

சிலுவையின்றி கிறிஸ்துவம் ஒரு மடமையே. பவுல் இதை தெளிவாக அறிந்திருந்தார் அறிவித்தார். நான் உங்களிடையே இருந்தபோது மெசியாவாகிய இயேசுவைத் தவிர, அதுவும் சிலுவையில் அறையப்பட்ட அவரைத் தவிர, வேறு எதையும் அறியவேண்டும் என்று நினைக்கவில்லை. (1 கொரி 2:2). நானோ நம் ஆண்டவர் இயேசுகிறிஸ்துவின் சிலுவையை அன்றி, வேறு எதைப்பற்றியும் ஒருபோதும் பெருமை பாராட்ட மாட்டேன். அதன் வழியாகவே> என்னைப் பொறுத்தவரையில், உலகம் சிலுவையில் அறையப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. உலகைப் பொறுத்தவரையில் நானும் சிலுவையில் அறையப்பட்டிருக்கிறேன்.
