GOSPEL READING: LUKE 19:1-10
He ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree in order to see Jesus,
Zacchaeus was a tax collector and as a chief tax collector he has accepted the authority of Rome and indirectly he has accepted the religion of Rome. Israelites believed only in Yahweh and thy also accepted no other ruler over them except Yahweh and his anointed ones. Because of this Zacchaeus considered to be a sinner and the people were not associating with him.
Zachaeus longed for God and he wanted to see the Holy one of Israel. When he got the news he came in search of him and he made effort to see him by climbing the tree. This effort is respected by and responded by Jesus. Jesus honours the sincere effort. Though he was a sinner yet he longed for God and that led him to repentance and in turn to be in relationship with the people.

அவர் முன்னே ஓடிப்போய்> அவரைப் பார்ப்பதற்காக ஒரு காட்டு அத்தி மரத்தில் ஏறிக் கொண்டார்.
சக்கேயு ஒரு செல்வர்> மேலும் அவர் வரிதண்டுவோருக்குத் தலைவர். அதனால் பாவியாக கருதப்பட்டவர். மக்கள் கண்ணில் பாவியாக கருதப்பட்டாலும் கடவுளை தேடினார். கடவுளை காண விரும்பினார். அந்த மனநிலைதான் அவசியமானது. கடவுளை தேடுவோர் மனித உறவில் வாழ்வர் (‘ஆண்டவரே> என் உடைமைகளில் பாதியை ஏழைகளுக்குக் கொடுத்துவிடுகிறேன்@ எவர் மீதாவது பொய்க் குற்றம் சுமத்தி எதையாவது கவர்ந்திருந்தால் நான் அதை நான்கு மடங்காகத் திருப்பிக் கொடுத்து விடுகிறேன்”).
