As they were going out, a demoniac who could not speak was brought to him, and when the demon was driven out the mute person spoke. The crowds were amazed and said, "Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel." But the Pharisees said, "He drives out demons by the prince of demons." Jesus went around to all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and curing every disease and illness. At the sight of the crowds, his heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest." (Mt 9:32-38)
People are controlled and conditioned by what happen around them. People believed that a godly person can do miracles. They always carried or took the sick persons to be healed by the holy men. But with Jesus the people wondered and said, "Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel". People in general were religious minded.
But at the same time there would always be a group that questioned and doubted everything that happened around. This was because of their limited idea of religion or their inevitable control over even God. General public saw religion and God in everything. But a group like Pharisees thought that they knew the happening of religion and hence they were ready to classify this as human happening.
Jesus went about his mission in the villages and towns without any consideration for the groups. His mission was to preach the kingdom and do the activities of the kingdom. He wanted this to continue. For him the realization of the kingdom on earth was more important that tackling the little groups that opposed. That is why he said, "The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest".05.
