24.05.11 PEACE

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. You heard me tell you, 'I am going away and I will come back to you.' If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you this before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe. I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me, but the world must know that I love the Father and that I do just as the Father has commanded me. Get up, let us go. (Jn 14:27-31)

Peace that Jesus gives is different from the peace that this world gives. The peace of Jesus includes many things in it: a state of national tranquility (exemption from the rage and havoc of war); peace between individuals (harmony, concord); security, safety, prosperity, felicity, (because peace and harmony make and keep things safe and prosperous); of the Messiah's peace (the way that leads to salvation); of Christianity (the tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and content with its earthly lot, of whatsoever sort that is); the blessed state of devout and upright men after death

Jesus peace is all inclusive. And this peace will lead one to be united with the father. So Jesus goes to the father as the first one. He goes to show the disciples their goal in life is to go to the father. Peace of Jesus will lead one to be united with the father. To be united with the father is not to be cut of from the rest. A man of peace will be constantly in touch with the father and the world.
