30.01.2012 DISCIPLE

GOSPEL  READING:  MARK 5:1-20

Jesus meets this possessed man in a foreign land. This man before meeting Jesus was different but after meeting Jesus he became normal. The description of the man before meeting Jesus is quite interesting. He was dwelling among the tombs (= dead man). He was violent (he attacked others and cut himself with stones). He was without clothes (=animal). Totally he was not like a living human person.

After meeting Jesus, he was clothed; he was in his right mind. He was sitting. (All his violent, animal, dead characters disappeared). He wanted to follow Jesus and be a disciple. Jesus sent him back to his community. Could we say that a normal, human person (who has met Jesus) would want to be a disciple of Jesus? And Jesus’ mission was to make man complete and whole and put him back in the community.
