27.11.10 VIGILANT

"Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life, and that day catch you by surprise like a trap. For that day will assault everyone who lives on the face of the earth. Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man." (Lk 21:34-36)

All the things that happen in life lead the believer to dissipation. Life is becoming more routine and drab. There was excitement in the expectation of the return of the lord. But the delay makes one feel as if thing are not going to happen as expected. Secular world and the political world seem to offer more excitement than the religious expectation.

Jesus assures the disciples that the day of the Son of Man will come as a surprise. It will catch up with everyone and it will be a trap (all will be caught by it). He tells the followers to keep alert, to be patient and to pray for strength. A believer should keep the excitement going and keep the marvel of the things happening. He should marvel at things as they happen.
