17.07.2018 REPENTANCE

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 11: 20-24

What were the mighty deeds that were done in Chorazin and Bethsaida?. This is the question that lingers in our mind as we read this passage because, Jesus felt so much to reproach these places. There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written. (Jn 21:25)

Jesus compared these two towns with Tyre and Sidon; the two towns which where very famous and very close to Israel and the people had link with these two towns. Jesus himself went to these places. But they were pagan towns (they did not believe in Yahweh). He compared these towns with Sodom which was morally a very bad place and was destroyed precisely for this reason. In all these arguments Jesus gives importance to repentance.
