31.12.2019 — Need to recognize Grace and Truth

Christmas Octave, Tuesday – 31st December 2019 — Gospel: John 1,1-18

Need to recognize Grace and Truth

On this last day of the year, we recall many pleasant as well as disappointed memories of the events that happened in our personal lives, our families and communities, or around the nation and globe at large. In all these, we do ponder over our shortcomings, at times throwing up our hands on others and situations, and at times even with God. Some of the phrases of today’s Gospel help us to appreciate the moments where God has accompanied in our journey and where grace has made its presence felt.

In the beginning was the Word …

And the Word was God …

All things came to be through him …

What came to be through him was life,

And this life was the light of the human race;

The light shines in the darkness,

And the darkness has not overcome it …

And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us,

And we saw his glory …

Full of grace and truth …

Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Every day we are given multiple opportunities to recognize truth and grace. The truth about who the world belongs to, to whom we belong to, and who we are in Christ. In the midst of chaos and confusion that lead us astray, we have the revelation of God’s abiding love. Indeed, we come to know and recognize the voice of Jesus as the voice of grace and truth. What a wonderful and powerful reminder at the end of the last day and as we are about to begin another year.
