Saturday within Easter Octave – 18th April 2020 — Gospel: Mark 16, 9-15
Movement from unbelief to mission
In this passage, the risen Lord repeatedly appeared to individuals in order to move his disciples from unbelief to belief. Yet, the Lord manifested his faith in them, by sending them out as messengers of the good news of his resurrection. Their initial refusal to believe in him did not exclude them from the mission Jesus intended for them. He knows that we will struggle in our efforts to carry out his mission, just as the disciples were challenged to believe in the resurrection. However, not only Jesus continues to send us out to “the whole world”, he continues to come towards us until our eyes are opened. He continues to believe in us, even when we do not believe in him.
