22nd Week in Ord. Time, Wednesday – 2nd September 2020 — Gospel: Lk 4,38-44

Personalized schedule for the kingdom

In this section, Luke the evangelist specifies some details of Jesus’ daily routine. In the morning hours, Jesus spends his times in the synagogues teaching and preaching the kingdom. After preaching in the synagogue of Capernaum, where Jesus healed a man with demonic, he now moves to the house of Simon. Towards the end of the passage we find that Jesus was again in the synagogues of Judea preaching and teaching. In doing his preaching in the synagogues, Jesus manifests that he is an itinerant preacher, for he moves to three places in three days, from Nazareth to Capernaum and to Judea. He openly expresses his mission that he has to preach in the other towns also. At Simon’s house, he healed the fever of his mother-in-law. Then at sunset, he continues to heal various ailments of physical and spiritual nature, who were brought at the door steps of the house. These illnesses, including demons, were healed instantly and completely. It would seem that Jesus performed healings throughout the night. Because, early on the next morning, Luke presents that Jesus slipped away to a lonely place. Luke does not specifically mention that Jesus when he went alone, he went to pray, but Mark does (Mk 1,35). Then Jesus sets out to continue his ministry in the synagogues of Judea. In this daily schedule, Jesus shows his dedication to the ministry to which he has been called. His first priority was to teach and preach God’s kingdom in the synagogues. Then he shared his compassionate nature with those who were suffering by healing every kind of disease. His public manifestation was recharged by his private encounter with the divine, whose will Jesus seeks to do.
