10.10.2020 — Beatitude for Nursing a Child

27th Week in Ord. Time, Saturday – 10th October 2020 — Gospel:             Lk 11,27-28

Beatitude for Nursing a Child

In contrast to those in the crowd who think of Jesus as an agent of Satan or who demand signs from him to prove his godliness, a woman in the crowd praises Mary’s motherliness for producing such a wonderful person as Jesus. This woman stands out from others as she has great insight. She senses the greatness of Jesus from his wisdom and power. Probably she perceives Jesus to be their long-expected Messiah. Therefore from Jesus’ greatness, she infers the greatness of his mother Mary. This woman from the crowd, obviously, believes that humaneness of Jesus is Mary’s masterpiece. All of what Mary is, she imparted to him in flesh and blood and in early nurturing.  Thus, Mary becomes an example who made a positive impact on Jesus’ human virtues and perfections.  In another perspective, this woman from the crowd, also, boldly cries out a beatitude that brings out the importance of nursing the child with values. She highlights the great truth about the child psychology that the growth of the baby consists in being formed well in the womb and in the period of breastfeeding.
