02.01.2021 — Simple Yet Humble Prophet

Christmas Weekday, Saturday – 02nd January 2021 — Gospel:  Lk 1,19-28

Simple yet Humble Prophet

In today’s gospel we have a beautiful episode of John the Baptist’s humility. Through his humility he gives the positive proof of Jesus identity; he says “I’m not worthy to unite the strap of his sandal.” To untie the straps of sandals was the work of the salves. There was a rabbinic saying which said that a disciple might do for his master anything that a servant did, except only to untie his sandals. John was a prominent preacher and prophet. He was also a son of a priest, yet he humbles to become a pointer to the Lord. He prepared the way of the Lord through his virtues of simplicity and humility. He was truly a man of God; he had the courage to stand for the truth and ready to face the consequences. John the Baptist could withstand before the leaders of his time because he could bend before the Lord in humility. Therefore challenged the ruling class people and he became a martyr for the good values he stood for. His greatness lies in his character of being humble.
