22.06.2021 — Missing God’s Best

12th Week in Ord. Time, Tuesday – 22nd June 2021 — Gospel: Mt 7,6.12-14

Missing God’s Best

Today’s gospel depicts the two roads that point out the destinations of the human race. These are the way to heaven and the way to hell. Jesus warns that the gate of Christian discipleship is narrow and the way is difficult. But those who faithfully follow His teachings find an abundant life. On the other hand, there is the wide gate – the life of self-indulgence and pleasure. The end of such a life is destruction (Prov 16,25). We cannot walk on two roads, in two different directions, at the same time. However, Jesus is both the gate (Jn 10,9) and the way (Jn 14,6). Following Him requires faith, discipline and endurance. But this difficult life is the only life worth living. If you choose the easy way, you will have plenty of company, but you will miss God’s best for you.  This is not a discussion of losing one’s soul, but of failure to live out the purpose of one’s existence.
