Forgiveness aids Physical Healing
The persistent effort of the friends of the paralyzed man towards Jesus, once again demonstrates Jesus’ unique authority beyond physical healing. This time, rather than healing the man’s external illness, Jesus prefers to forgive his sins. With this, Jesus begins to validate that his mission carries a message about deeper and spiritual realties. Disease and sin both display the disorder within creation and evil in the world. Forgiving is a greater healing than a physical cure; in fact, sin is the worst of all diseases. Jesus’ claim exhibits his authority to forgive sins, which shows the comprehensiveness of his saving mission.
