26th Week in Ord. Time, Saturday – 1st October 2022 — Gospel: Lk 10,17-24
Christian Joy
The mission of the seventy is a great success. They return in joy, announcing their victory over demonic power. Jesus acknowledges their success and teaches them to draw confidence from it. However he points to the greater reason for joy that their names are written in heaven. Christian joy does not ultimately rest upon achievement. It rests upon a deep sense of relationship with God and the knowledge of the destiny to which that relationship leads. Those who are attached to the worldly things cannot have a claim on God, because they completely depend on their own ability. It is God the Father who graciously reveals himself to those who surrender themselves to him. This knowledge is a gift and love to be received in humility (1 Cor 1,21).
