2nd Week of Advent, Wednesday – 13th December 2023 – Isaiah 40,35-31; Mt 11:28-30
Empowering Strength
In the first reading, far away from home and living in bitter exile, God’s people wonder if their God has forgotten about them. The exiles to whom Isaiah addresses his words were under a tremendous burden, not just physically, but also emotionally and spiritually. They needed to be given encouragement and hope. Isaiah speaks of the strength of the Lord God. God is fully aware of His people’s situation and will show His love and power when they return to their homeland. Not only does God have strength, God shares that divine strength with those who are weak and weary. God empowers them to soar like eagles and run and not grow faint or weary. However, the exiles must realize that those who wait on the Lord are assured of renewed strength. It is absurd to think that He cares less for His people than for the stars which He guides so unerringly. God is the source of our strength and our Joy.
