GOSPEL READING: JOHN 5:31-47
“You search the Bible inside out and back to front and you think you have eternal life” is the accusation Jesus is making to some of his listeners. He says that the whole Bible is talking about him. It is like saying that you have the right book but read the wrong way. This seems to be a strong warning to the scholars, preachers, and teachers. There is an intellectual pursuit of the Bible.
Bible should be read in the light of Jesus. Reading of the Bible should lead one into personal knowledge, into adoration, into prayer. Then it will lead the person back into the Bible for further study. From scripture to Messiah and back again is the right process of study of the Bible.
