GOSPEL READING:LUKE 19:45-48

The author says that he was teaching in the temple area everyday. We do not know exactly how many days this everyday would add up to. But the statement show that Jesus was familiar with what was happening in the temple area. What was happening in the temple area was not a reported information but a first hand information; his personal experience.

All the people were hanging on to his word. General public liked his preaching. But the scribes and leaders were not happy with his preaching. Jesus was one with the people but at the same time he was not feeling one with the leaders. From his preaching we come to know that the leaders were making temple into a den of thieves. Temple was supposed to have been the place of the presence of God but now it has become residence of thieves.

17.11.2016 WEPT

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 19:41-44

Jesus reached the city and before entering into it he looked at the city and wept over it. Now it is Jesus’ turn to cry. In Luke’s Gospel we have found other people in tears: the widow at Nain, Jairus’s family, the others in distresses who were coming to him for healing. The women of Jerusalem will weep for Jesus (23,27).

In John’s Gospel Jesus wept at the tomb of Lazarus. It was not a moment of weakness. Here he has warned the people and the city and the temple of the impending judgment. They resisted his call for peace. What they are going to receive is destruction and punishment.
