13.10.2015 PHARISEES

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 11:37-41

Jesus was friendly with the Pharisees. He was invited by them for dinner and he also accepted the invitation. He was not against the Pharisees as a group. But he criticized those who observed only the rules and did not care for the values. He was so friendly with them that he also was free to criticize them openly.

Pharisees were as ignorant as anyone else there. They were in need of education as everyone else. There were aware of the rules. They had studied the laws. But they did not know the values behind the rules and laws. They had to know the things in its completeness in its totality.

பரிசேயர்களும் இயேசுவுக்கு நண்பர்களாய் இருந்திருக்கிறார்கள். இயேசுவும் அவர்களோடு உணவு அருந்தச் சென்றார். அவர்களோடு பழகினார். உறிமையோடு அவர்களை சாடினார். அவர்கள் சட்டங்களை படித்திருந்தார்கள் ஆனால் அந்த சட்டங்கள் சுட்டிக்காட்டும் பண்புகளை அவர்கள் அறியாதிருந்தார்கள்.

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 11:29-32

People long for a sign. They do not believe what they at the moment or they do not accept what they hear at the moment. For the people, something should happen which is totally out of the ordinary (even if it is contradictory they do not mind). But God works through nature and in history. God reveals himself in ordinary happening and in reality. Creation itself reveals God.

Jonah preached to the people of Nineveh and he reminded them of their sins and their need for conversion. He was only a reminder and the people changed their lived and believed in God. The queen of the south listened to Solomon and believed in the Wisdom of Solomon (wisdom is a gift of God). The people of the present age struggle to believe in Jesus (they long for signs). Jesus is greater than Jonah the prophet and greater than the Wisdom of Solomon.

‘இந்தத் தீய தலைமுறையினர் அடையாளம் கேட்கின்றனர். இவர்களுக்கு யோனாவின் அடையாளத்தைத் தவிர வேறு அடையாளம் எதுவும் கொடுக்கப்பட மாட்டாது. யோனாவின் போதனையை மக்கள் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டார்கள். மனம்மாறினார்கள். மனமாற்றம் மக்கள் இறைவனை காணும்போதுதான் நிகழும். மக்கள் இறைவனை இயற்கையில் வரலாற்றில் காண வேண்டும்.
