GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 13:24-43

Jesus spoke in parables and only in parables regarding the kingdom. Jesus used parables to reveal the truths about the kingdom. These truths were not the result of search by the intelligent and clever people. These were revelations and the revelations are true to the believing people. People of faith accepted these revelations and they were given the secrets of the kingdom.

One of the secrets of the kingdom is that the kingdom contained in itself both good and the bad. God intended only the good but the evil is present among them. But the labourers of the kingdom are not to be bothered about removing the evil but they should only continue to work and work so that the good may reach their completion. Probably what St. Paul says in Romans 12:21 (overcome evil by doing good) is the result of this revelation.

Second and the third revelations about the kingdom are:1) the kingdom is so small and insignificant that it may go unnoticed. However it will be a place of rest and abode for many; 2) the way the kingdom functions is so unnoticed that only at the end one realizes that the kingdom has taken over the whole society.

19.07.2014 IN THE NAME OF JESUS

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 12:14-21

As in the midst of Christ’s greatest humiliations, there were proofs of his dignity, so also in the midst of greatest hounours, he gave proofs of his humility. When the mighty works he did gave him an opportunity of making a great figure, yet he emptied himself and made himself of no reputation. The Pharisees were vexed not only because of his miracles but also because of his doctrine which was directly opposed to them.

The purpose of the gospel is to bring people to trust in the name of Jesus Christ. Until he establishes justice on the earth; the coastlands will wait for his teaching (Isa 42:4). The coastlands here refer to the gentiles. The gentiles shall wait for the law and the law here means the faith they will have in the name of Jesus. This is the law of salvation for the evangelist: faith in the name of Jesus.
