GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 11:20-24

Christ came into the world to bless. But if the blessing be slighted then he had woes in reserve and his woes are of all others the most terrible. The two cities Chorazin and Bethsaida were situated upon the Sea of Galilee and they were rich and populous places. Jesus had three of his apostles from Bethsaida. But later they became most obscure villages.

Capernaum was the place of residence for Jesus when he started his public ministry. Capernaum had heard the preaching of Jesus and seen many of his miracles. But our external privileges will be so far from saving us, that if our hearts and lives be not agreeable to them.

14.07.2014 RELATIONS

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 10:34-11:1

The disciples should choose Jesus before the nearest and dearest relations (Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me). It is not that they have to be neglected instead Jesus has to be the first. Before ease and safety cross should be taken (whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me). Same way Jesus should be taken before life (Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it).

Jesus does not in any way speak against relations and the safety and security of life or against life itself rather he invites his disciples to primacy to Jesus before other things. It is this that will allow the disciple to receive the blessings and rewards. Rewards are only in relation to Jesus.
